Vera, a young transgender man in São Paulo, struggles to find a place for himself in a society that views him with suspicion. In its moments of connection, grief and resilience, the film shows the strength it takes to live authentically. Thanks in part to the powerful performance of Ana Beatriz Nogueira, who won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 1987 Berlinale, Vera is a deeply moving and important work in the history of Brazilian and LGBTQIA+ cinema.
