Site
An van. Dienderen, 2000, BE, 10'

An van. Dienderen was commissioned in 2000 by the KunstenFESTIVALdesArts to make the film Site, a topographic portrait of José Besprosvany, based on the testimonies of immigrant artists, as part of the project D’ici et de là-bas/Van hier en ginder (From here and there). What’s identity? To what extent does origin determine the work of an artist? An van. Dienderen analyses the matter by means of a visual anthropological portrait of José Besprosvany. This choreographer of Mexican-Jewish-Slavic origins tests out his multiple identity through the personal trajectory of his work. The mechanism of cultural exclusion proves to be active in the arts as well.

Need Any Help?
Nicolas Provost, 1999, BE, 7'

Need Any Help? is a romantic roadmovie about the meeting of two lonely people, hampered by a chronic lack of time, trapped in the dramatic norwegian fjords.

Pommes d’amour
Nicolas Provost, 2001, BE, 5'

Reflections on love, narcissism, loss & Freud.

Motion for Stockhausen
Anouk De Clercq, 2000, BE, 10'

Conceived originally as a backdrop projection for the dance performance Chorée, this film is in itself a study on choreography. The image source is the oldest Belgian film footage, shot by Arthur van Gehuchten. The movements of hysterical patients, registered by the doctor, are carefully reframed in a dignifying way.

Covering #1: Beautiful
Luc Compernol, 1999, BE, 7'

A window, a vase with flowers and Minnie Ripperton’s hitsingle.

Sonar
Anouk De Clercq, 2001, BE, 3'

Sonar is short and sharp, a dynamic interplay between sight and sound. In the line of contemporary moving graphic arts, Sonar is geometric, abstract and consists of purely digitally generated images (and sounds). The minimalist, electronic soundtrack by Ryoji Ikeda is not illustrated by the image (nor vice versa): the excitement of this work is that picture and sounds seem to drink from the same spring.

File
Kurt D'Haeseleer, 2000, BE, 25'

File scrutinises the bandwidth between representation and immersion, showing a world of complexity. This work is trying to be a lot at the same time: video clip, essay, action movie, sociological study, documentary, soap and even commercial but above all a hermetic collection of sensations. A dated relation goes off the road and two people lose each other in overdrive.
