On missing what is gone and the destruction of an unexpected gift.
The object of attention is a dearly departed building on a corner that once housed the 'House of Sound', a record store, a community anchor, and a landmark for passersby. Founded in 1964, the store itself was the remnant of an almost mythical neighbourhood in the city’s history, a strip of black jazz clubs which disappeared after the construction of a memorial and a hospital in the area. A beacon of livelier, more colourful times in a part of town only recently rediscovered by developers.
This is the story of the DeLorean car, its creator John DeLorean and the workers of the Belfast-based car plant who built it. The film deftly contrasts the DeLorean dream with its spectacular downfall during a critical period in Northern Ireland’s history, and the canonisation of the car as a symbol of the American myth of mobility.
