A view on the relationship between the Venus-transit, an astronomical phenomenon, and the origins of moving image technology (Jules Janssens' photographic revolver, Marey's chronofotographic and the brothers Lumière's cinematograph). Starling travelled to Hawaii and Tahiti, filming the recent transit and the sites of previous observations, documenting the last transit to be recorded using 35mm technology.
