Helma Sanders-Brahm's feature debut explores the disappointment of the post-1968 generation. After a theater performance, Grischa and Heinrich start talking; they fall in love. But as Grischa changes her self-image and becomes involved in political actions, Heinrich becomes increasingly dissatisfied and jealous. The conflict between the political and the personal is reflected in the aesthetics: the film interweaves staged scenes with documentary images that show the political struggle of the time.
